Company culture

How things actually get done here. Set by behaviour, not by posters.

Please note: This page explains what a term means. It is general information, not legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and it does not know anything about your business. What it means

Culture is the shared norms and behaviours of an organisation — what gets rewarded, what gets tolerated, and what happens when nobody is watching.

Why it matters

It determines retention, discretionary effort and whether problems get raised early or hidden. It is also the thing least amenable to being announced.

What it looks like in practice

Culture is set by what leaders do, especially in difficult moments — who gets promoted, what happens after a mistake, whether a top performer's behaviour is addressed.

What to watch out for

Values on a wall that contradict the behaviour in the room. That gap is more corrosive than having no stated values at all.

Where to get proper advice

Your own exit interviews and staff turnover, which are the honest measures.
