What it means
Feedback describes observed behaviour and its effect, and where necessary what should change.
Why it matters
Vague praise and vague criticism are both useless. Specificity is what makes feedback actionable, and timeliness is what makes it relevant.
What it looks like in practice
Describe the behaviour, the impact, and the alternative. "In the client meeting you answered before they finished the question, which made them stop explaining the problem — let them finish."\n\nGive it close to the event, privately for criticism.
What to watch out for
Sandwiching criticism between praise, which is well known enough that people discount the praise and wait for the middle.
