Change management

Getting people to actually work the new way.

Please note: This page explains what a term means. It is general information, not legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and it does not know anything about your business. What it means

Change management is the people side of a change: communication, involvement, training and support through a transition.

Why it matters

Systems go live and processes stay the same. The gap is almost always that nobody explained why, or asked the people doing the work what would break.

What it looks like in practice

Explain the reason, not just the change. Involve the people who do the work in the design. Train before go-live and support after it.\n\nExpect a dip in performance immediately after any change and plan for it rather than being surprised.

What to watch out for

Consultation that is really an announcement. People know the difference, and it costs the goodwill you need.\n\nWhere terms and conditions change, there may also be a legal consultation obligation.

Where to get proper advice

ACAS on consultation. Your own team, asked early.
