Brand
Also called Branding, Brand identity
What people expect of you before they deal with you. The logo is the smallest part of it.

What it means
A brand is the set of associations and expectations people hold about a business. The visual identity — logo, colours, typography — expresses it. It is not the thing itself.
Brand is built by consistency: what you promise, what you deliver, and whether those match, repeatedly.
Why it matters
Brand is what makes marketing cheaper over time. A recognised name converts better at every stage, which lowers customer acquisition cost permanently.
It is also what supports a price. Two identical services at different prices differ in what buyers believe about the seller.
What it looks like in practice
Get the fundamentals consistent before anything ambitious: the same name, the same look, the same claims, and the same experience everywhere someone meets you.
A rebrand is expensive and disruptive. Be clear whether the problem is the identity or the reputation, because a new logo does not fix the second.
Protect it. Register the trade mark if the name matters — a company name and a domain give no trade mark rights.
What to watch out for
Brand guidelines nobody follows because nobody has them to hand. One page beats forty.
Confusing brand spend with awareness. Awareness of a business people do not trust is not an asset.
Where to get proper advice
A designer for the identity and the Intellectual Property Office for protection. The positioning underneath it is yours and cannot be outsourced.
Revise this with a song
These are ours. We write revision songs because a lot of people remember a tune when they cannot remember a page, and because revising out loud in the kitchen beats staring at a highlighter.
