A Level
Also called A-levels, Advanced level
The traditional academic qualification at 18, graded A* to E, and the usual route to university.
Academy
Also called Academy trust, MAT, Multi-academy trust, Free school
A state school funded directly by government rather than through the council. It changes who you complain to.
Access arrangements
Also called Exam access arrangements, Extra time, Special consideration
Adjustments to how an exam is taken so a candidate is not disadvantaged. Applied for in advance, and evidence-based.
Accessibility plan
A school's plan to improve access for disabled pupils, over time. A legal requirement.
