SEN information report

What a school must publish about how it supports children with SEND. Useful, and rarely read by parents.

What it is

Every school must publish, and review annually, a report setting out its arrangements for pupils with SEND: how it identifies needs, what provision it makes, how it evaluates it, staff expertise and training, how parents are involved, and how complaints are handled.

Where it applies

All maintained schools and academies. It must be on the school's website.

How it works

It should be specific to that school. Many are a lightly edited template, which is itself informative.

What you can ask for

Read it before a meeting. If it says the school provides something your child is not getting, quote it — you are asking them to do what they have published, not asking for a favour.

Ask how the school evaluates whether its SEN provision works. The report has to say, and the answer tells you whether anyone is checking.

The school's website. If it is not there, that is itself a breach worth raising with the governors.
