What it is
A comparison question gives one named poem and asks you to compare it with another of your choice from the same cluster.

How it works
The choice matters enormously. A poem with clear points of contact — theme, form, perspective — gives you an essay; a poem you happen to remember gives you two descriptions.
How to use it in your work
Prepare pairings in advance. Group your anthology by theme and by form and know two or three reliable partners for each poem.
Compare throughout, in every paragraph, not in a final paragraph.
Compare methods as well as content: two poets writing about the same thing in different FORMS is where the marks are.

Your teacher, your board's mark scheme and its examiners' reports — those say exactly what separates the bands, and they are free.
