Trade shows and events

Meeting a lot of prospects in two days. Expensive, and measurable.

Please note: This page explains what a term means. It is general information, not legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and it does not know anything about your business. Before you sign, file or commit to anything, check it with an accountant, a solicitor, or the official guidance we link to.

What it means

Exhibiting at a trade show involves stand cost, build, staff time, travel and materials.

Why it matters

The full cost is usually two to three times the stand price, and the return depends almost entirely on the follow-up, which is where most exhibitors fail.

What it looks like in practice

Set a target before booking — number of qualified conversations, not leads scanned. Book meetings in advance with existing prospects; the show is a venue, not a lead source.\n\nFollow up within 48 hours or the value decays sharply.

What to watch out for

Collecting badges. A scanned badge is not a lead, and a list of 400 of them is worth less than twenty real conversations.

Where to get proper advice

Your trade association for which shows matter. Exhibitor lists from previous years, and past exhibitors asked directly.
