Time management for owners

Where the owner's hours go. The scarcest resource in a small business.

What it means

Owner time divides between working IN the business — delivering — and working ON it: strategy, systems, hiring, selling.

Why it matters

Businesses that never grow are usually run by owners whose whole week is delivery, because the work that would change that never gets time.

What it looks like in practice

Track a fortnight honestly. Most owners find a large share of their time on work somebody cheaper could do — see delegation.\n\nProtect a block each week for work on the business and treat it as unmovable.

What to watch out for

Being the bottleneck deliberately because it feels safer. It caps the business and it is the largest key person risk it carries.

Where to get proper advice

Your own figures, which are the only ones that describe your business.
