Also called TMD, TMJ, Jaw joint problems, Bruxism
Jaw pain, clicking and headaches, usually from clenching. Almost always managed without surgery, and irreversible dental work should be resisted.
Also called Tendonitis, Tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, Plantar fasciitis
Tendon pain from load, not from inflammation. Rest makes it worse, and the treatment is graded loading over months.
Also called Tension-type headache, Ordinary headache
The commonest headache there is. The main risk is treating it so often that the painkillers start causing the headaches.
The commonest cancer in men aged 15 to 49, and one of the most curable. Checking takes thirty seconds.
Also called Twisted testicle
Sudden testicle pain is a surgical emergency with a six-hour window. Embarrassment is the main reason boys lose a testicle to this.
Also called Lockjaw
Almost eliminated by vaccination, and still fatal when it occurs. The question after any dirty wound is when the last booster was.
Also called Beta thalassaemia, Alpha thalassaemia, Thalassaemia trait
An inherited anaemia needing lifelong transfusions in its severe form. The trait is harmless, common, and repeatedly mistaken for iron deficiency.
Also called TOS
Nerves or vessels squeezed between the collarbone and first rib. Difficult to diagnose, easy to dismiss, and the vascular form is dangerous.
Also called Pinworms, Nits
Extremely common, harmless, and nothing to do with cleanliness. The shame is the part that does the damage.
