What it is
A personal education plan is the education part of the care plan for every looked-after child. It records attainment, targets, the support in place and how pupil premium plus is being used.
Where it applies
Every child in care of compulsory school age, and it should start within 20 school days of entering care or joining a new school.
How it works
The designated teacher leads on it in school, the social worker and the Virtual School are involved, and it is reviewed at least termly.
The young person should take part, and carers should be there.
What you can ask for
Ask for it to be a working document rather than a form. Specific targets, named actions, dates.
Ask how pupil premium plus is being spent on this child. The Virtual School controls it and it should follow the PEP.
Ask for the young person's own views to be recorded in their words.
