Business continuity for key suppliers
What happens if a supplier you depend on stops.
Please note: This page explains what a term means. It is general information, not legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and it does not know anything about your business. Before you sign, file or commit to anything, check it with an accountant, a solicitor, or the official guidance we link to.
What it means
Supplier continuity assesses which suppliers are critical, what the impact of their failure would be, and what the alternative is.
Why it matters
A single-source critical supplier is a concentration risk on the supply side, and it is usually less visible than customer concentration.
What it looks like in practice
List critical suppliers, mark the single-sourced ones, and qualify a second source before you need it. Check their financial health — credit scores and filed accounts are public.
What to watch out for
Sub-tier risk. Your supplier's supplier can stop you just as effectively and you may not know who they are.
Where to get proper advice
Your own supplier list, ranked by what happens if they stop tomorrow.
