VAT annual accounting
One VAT return a year with instalments through it. Less admin, less flexibility.

What it means
Under annual accounting you file one return a year and pay by instalments based on the previous year's liability, with a balancing payment.
Why it matters
It reduces admin from four returns to one and makes payments predictable, which helps budgeting.
What it looks like in practice
There is a turnover ceiling. Instalments can be adjusted if the business changes materially, but the default is based on history.
What to watch out for
A business whose turnover falls sharply, paying instalments based on a better year and waiting a full year for the refund.
Where to get proper advice
GOV.UK for the current rates and thresholds, which move most years. Your accountant before acting — this is exactly the kind of question a fee is for.
