What it is
Stagecraft covers the theatrical elements a playwright controls — entrances and exits, stage directions, positioning, silence, props, lighting cues and the shape of an act.
Where it applies
Drama set texts in English Literature.
How it works
Writing about a play as if it were a novel is one of the most common weaknesses examiners report. A play is written to be watched, and the audience's experience is the subject.
How to use it in your work
Say 'the audience' rather than 'the reader'.
Write about entrances and exits. Who is on stage when something is said changes what it means, and it is a structural point most candidates never make.
Use the stage directions as evidence.
