What it is
A provision map records the interventions and additional support a school runs, who they are for, how often they happen, who delivers them and what they cost.
It is a management tool first — it lets a school see what it is spending its SEN budget on and whether it works — and a communication tool second.
Where it applies
Used by most mainstream schools. Not statutory.
How it works
Typically a grid by year group or by need, sometimes costed against the notional SEN budget.
A good one shows impact, not just activity: which children made progress on what.
What you can ask for
Ask which interventions your child is in, for how long, and what the exit criteria are. An intervention with no end point is usually one nobody is evaluating.
Ask what the school does when an intervention has not worked twice. That answer is the graduated approach in practice.
